Launched on Monday, the free app allows city District 3 residents to use their smartphones to report issues of blight such as overgrown weeds, graffiti, abandoned vehicles and other city code violations.
Anti-blight smartphone app launches in Salinas
A new smartphone app designed to help Salinas citizens alert the authorities to problems in the neighborhood hasarrived. The app, called myDistrict3, was introduced by city Councilman Steve McShane and developer Ryan Tate of app-order.com Wednesday during a community forum at St. Paul's Episcopal Church at 1071 Pajaro St.
Tate said Thursday that whenever residents encounter any of these issues, just snap a photo of it and send off the complaint. He said the GPS technology identifies the exact location and delivers the complaint to the appropriate city department. Complaints about things like graffiti, he said, ultimately allow police to track the perpetrators and identify trends.
