RESILIENCE IS FERTILE: Cultivating Appropriate Food Systems

Monterey Green Action in partnership with the The Habitat is proud to offer a special workshop, skillsharing and garden lunch Saturday, March 20, 2010 from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. 

Resilience is Fertile: Cultivating Appropriate Food Systems

A unique opportunity for the community to learn about the importance of localized food, its connection with healing the planet, and creating solution-based skills. The workshop will be facilitated by guest presenter Chad Morse, a service-learning, localized food and sustainability trained program facilitator, educator, and farmer who will share his knowledge of food systems in this community workshop that includes:

• 10:00 am to Noon: 
An interactive morning session exploring the ethical, ecological, and economic implications of industrial food systems and local food systems including the world views that underpin them.

• Noon to 1:00:
Garden lunch provided
(reusable 'lunch-ware' available)
*to reduce waste, BYO Napkin

• 12:30 to 1:00:
Yoga by Rose Ashbach
*yoga mat preferred

• 1:00 to 2:30:
Choose from 3 of the following Skill sharing sessions..
a. the keeping of bees, Liz MacDonald, local beekeeper
b. managing your backyard chickens, CJ Pearce, Hacienda Pet & Feed
c. compost systems & techniques,Tanja Roos, The 
Habitat
d. native plant propogation, Peter Nelson, Garden Educator

• 3:30 to 4:45
Open space session which aims to increase participants awareness & enthusiasm around local food initiatives & projects through cross-pollinating dialogue.
