Salinas extends carrot to Green Vehicles

From The Californian: The decision by electric car maker Green Vehicles to relocate to Salinas came in response to a tentative city incentives package worth about $450,000, plus enterprise zone tax benefits that have been available here since January. 

"In this competitive market, we want to do all we can to get a quality business that can generate jobs in this city," City Manager Artie Fields said.

The city's incentives would be the first extended to a new business since Fields became city manager a little over a year ago, he said. Its terms are still under negotiation and subject to City Council approval on Nov. 17.

Salinas would spend up to $100,000 of its vehicle replacement budget for parks or maintenance at Green Vehicles, said Jeffrey Weir, economic development director.

"We'll buy up to four vehicles," Weir said. "Maybe the county will buy a couple. We're going to be replacing vehicles even under this tightest of economic times."
